St. Timothy’s Junior Classical League Hosts Certamen Tournament

Only a month into the new school year, the St. Timothy’s chapter of the Junior Classical League is already in full swing. The popular middle school club hosted a Certamen Tournament on Saturday, September 17, 2022, with six other Triangle area schools joining in on the fun.

Certamen, meaning Latin for “battle,” is a quiz-bowl style game designed to reinforce and enrich what Latin students learn in the classroom. Students compete in teams of four to demonstrate their knowledge of Latin vocabulary, Roman history, Latin mottos, and Classical Mythology. Both knowledge and speed are both required to win at Certamen.

Congratulations to the St. Timothy’s Gamma team for placing second and the Beta team for placing fourth!
