Your choice of high school reflects the evolving needs, interests, and personal preferences of your child and family. Our eighth grade graduates thrive and excel at a wide range of high schools. Each year we have students enroll in local private schools as well as public high schools, including magnet high schools and Raleigh’s nationally-recognized charter high school. A few students from each eighth grade graduating class choose boarding schools for high school. The important thing to remember is that St. Timothy’s students are prepared for the rigors and workload of the high school of their choice.
Our pre-kindergarten through eighth grade model offers us an opportunity for focused expertise on early-childhood through early-adolescent education.
St. Timothy’s School is committed to high-quality instruction. We incorporate research-based, best practices into our daily instruction to help all of our students succeed. We continue to focus on differentiated instruction within the classroom to meet the learning needs and styles of our students. In addition to differentiation in the classroom, St. Timothy’s School has a Lower School and a Middle School Learning Specialist available to support students, families, and teachers. Our learning specialists review academic data, including educational evaluations and standardized testing, and work closely with teachers, administrators, and parents to monitor student performance in an effort to maximize academic potential. Instructional strategies and/or accommodations for students may be implemented on a case-by-case basis.
In Lower School, we are able to meet student needs through our small-group, individualized instruction within the regular classroom.
In Middle School, in order for accommodations to be considered for students, we require a current educational evaluation (within 3 years) that indicates academic need for support (below average scores) and evidence from the classroom which also supports the need for recommended accommodations.
St. Timothy’s provides a comprehensive counseling program to all of our students that includes individual counseling, as well as small and large group counseling. In addition, we provide monthly classroom guidance to students in kindergarten through fourth grade covering topics ranging from respect and honesty to listening and problem solving skills. Character development continues in Middle School through weekly classroom time devoted to Social and Emotional Learning.
Every teacher at St. Timothy’s School is committed to helping students reach their academic potential. Our lower school teachers are available throughout the year for parent conferences (by appointment only) to discuss ways both the parent and the teacher can help the student reach his or her potential in the classroom.
Middle school students have regularly scheduled academic assistance sessions rotated into their schedules. During this time, students are allowed to work on homework assignments and projects, and may seek out a specific teacher for extra assistance. After-school sessions are offered at least twice a week by every middle school teacher. If additional help is needed, students may also contact a particular teacher to request an extra help session.
St. Timothy’s employs a full-time registered nurse who administers the school health room and supports student health needs each day during school hours. When necessary, the nurse also treats minor injuries and assesses any student’s illness.
